Ramappa Temple

Ramappa Temple

This well planned temple situated near the Warangal city is a perfect example of the richness and royalty of the erstwhile kings. The temple was built in 1213 AD and it is also known as Ramalingeswara Temple. General Recherla Rudra took the responsibility of the construction of the temple under the reign of King Ganapati Deva.

Lord Ramalingeswara is the presiding deity of the Ramappa Temple. Facts reveal that it took about 40 years to built this temple. The Ramappa temple is a superb example of the Kings' love for art, music and dance.

Architectural Uniqueness
The most surprising and notable feature of the Ramappa Temple is that the entire temple is built with such bricks that are so light in weight that they can easily float on water. Another fascinating element is the grabhagriha, mandapa, pillars and well carved stone sculptures.

A sculpted vimana lies along with the garbhagriha (the inner chamber). The beautiful mandapa comprises elegantly designed pillars that support the ceiling. The entire ceiling is wonderfully adorned with well carved figures that are related to the legendary Hindu epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata.

Apart from the primary temple, the complex has two another shrines, which are dedicated to Lord Shiva. The entire Ramappa temple complex is situated on a 6 ft high star-shaped platform.
