Srisailam is a wonderful town located in the Nallamala Hills of Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. Its location on the banks of the River Krishna add more charm to this already famous site in the state. Considered highly sacred, this town houses a famous Srisailam Devastanam temple dedicated to Lord Mallikarjuna Swamy and Bhramaramba. Srisailam is also one of the Jyothirlingam of India. The south of the town is surrounded by the ancient hill of Srigiri, which is considered sacred. Housing the Sikhareswara Swamy temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and Lord Ganesha, Sikharam is the highest hill of Srisailam.
Srisailam offers sheer scenic beauty. Its geography encompasses ghats, cliffs, plateau, ridges and dense forests. There is also a dam built across River Krishna in the town.
Srisailam Devasthanam Temple
It is a beautiful temple built in honor of Sri Mallikarjunaswamy and his consort Bharamaramba Devi. It is one of the ancient shrines visited by many a devotee. The lord is worshiped in the temple in the form of a lingam. The brilliant architectural beauty is one of the striking features of the temple.
Srisailam Tiger Reserve
Srisailam Tiger Reserve is another fascinating attraction of Srisailam. Sprawling over the five districts of Andhra Pradesh, the Tiger Reserve is a home to a rich variety of wildlife, including the avian species. Some of the wildlife species found here areĀ Leopard, wolf, sloth bear, gaur, Asian elephant, wild dog, Small Indian civet, barking deer, nilgai, Indian pangolin, Indian giant squirrel and langur. Grey jungle fowl, Indian peafowl, Grey francolin, Painted spurfowl, Red spurfowl and Indian Grey hornbill are some of the amazing bird species sighted in the Reserve.
