Srisailam Tiger Reserve is the largest tiger reserve in India. Covering an area of around 356,000 hectares, the Reserve is spread over the five districts of Andhra Pradesh- Kurnool, Prakasam, Guntur, Nalgonda and Mahboobnagar. The beautiful Krishna river flows outside the reserve. The southern and eastern sides of the reserve are encircled by the Nallamalai Hills. This wildlife destination became a Project Tiger Reserve in 1983.

The reserve boasts of a variety of forest types, from thorny scrubs to parched and mixed deciduous and semi evergreen forests. A diverse range of wildlife is found in the reserve. Leopard, wolf, sloth bear, gaur, Asian elephant, wild dog, Small Indian civet, barking deer, nilgai, Indian pangolin, Indian giant squirrel, langur are a few to name. The water bodies in the Reserve are the promising sites for offering glimpses of enchanting wildlife.

The reserve is truly a delight for bird lovers. A variety of birds are found here such as Grey jungle fowl, Indian peafowl, Grey francolin, Painted spurfowl, Red spurfowl, Indian Grey hornbill, Rufous woodpecker, Lesser yellownape, Blue-faced Malkoha, Indian cuckoo, Black-headed cuckooshrike, Large Cuckoo shrike and Spangled drongo.

The most propitious time to visit Srisailam Tiger Reserve is from November to March.
