Vishnupada Shrine

Vishnupada Shrine

In the holy land of India, people are addicted to religions. You can find them worshiping for small articles and even the dust particles. One such interesting temple is th Vishnupada Temple in the temple town of Hampi. As the name suggests, the devotees worship for the footprints of Lord Rama here. The entire temple is built above a pair of footprint carved on the rock surface. One can also find the Naga (divine snake) carvings here.

The temple is located quite close to the Sasivekalu Ganesha statue. There are a number of footprints made on the bare rock surfaces at the riverside and inside temple complex. People flock to the region to worship for these iconic footprints with flower petals and turmeric powder.

If you walk towards the riverside, near the Sugriva's Cave, you will find two pairs of footprints. One pair is smaller than the other. People believe that these belong to Lord Rama and Laxman, as the legend says the duo reached this place in search of Sita, Rama's lost wife.
