Kovalam Beach
Located 16 km from Thiruvananthapuram, Kovalam beach was initially popular as a sleepy fishing village. The fishermen used to dry the fish in the narrow lanes and thatched dwellings of wide country yards. After 1960s, it became a highly frequented place for the hippies and the backpackers. They developed it as a tourist destination. This beach offers spectacular scenic beauty, crystal-clear waters and a number of water activities to tourists. The entire beach is dotted with both luxury and budget resorts, as well as cafes and several government-approved Ayurveda centres.
The entire coastline here is divided into four beaches – Samudra beach, Ashok beach, Eve's beach and Lighthouse beach. These provide their visitors the perfect blend of sun, sea, surf and seafood. Tourists can get secluded space for sunbathing, safe swimming in the placid blue waters, catamaran trips, and other water sports.
