Backwaters
The backwaters of Kumarakom is a perfect place to enjoy the spectacular beauty of Mother nature. The backwaters is marked by peaceful ambiance, gorgeous green paddy fields, swaying coconut palm trees and arresting hills. The backwaters provide shelter to a variety of marine and freshwater fishes. One can even enjoy angling and canoing at the backwaters. Exciting boat races are also held here.
Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary
One of the mind blowing destinations of Kerala, Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary is a paradise for bird lovers. Ideally located on the banks of Vembanand Lake, the sanctuary is a home to the endangered Siberian Cranes and other birds such as water fowls, owls, cuckoos, egret, heron, parrot, teal, larks, flycatcher, darters, drongoes, wood beetle and Kingfisher. The best time to visit the sanctuary is from November to February.
Temples
Kumarakom has beautiful temples, which reflect the rich culture of Kerala. Built beautifully, some of the temples here are Ettumanoor Mahadevar temple, Sree Vallabha temple and Pundareekapuram temple.
