Eravikulam National Park - Munnar

Nestled in the gorgeous Idukki district of Kerala, Munnar is an exotic and fascinating tourist destination. Its spectacular scenic beauty leaves tourists awe-inspired. It is a small hill station with an altitude of 1600 m. The term Munnar has been derived from the Tamil and Malayalam words Manu (three) and aaru(river). The name of the town is connected to its strategic location at the confluence of the Muthirappuzha, Nallathanni and Kundaly rivers.

Munnar's refreshing environment offers peace and pleasure in abundance. The enchanting attractions of Munnar encompasses rejuvenating tea and coffee gardens, dense forests, romantic lakes and sheer scenic beauty. When it comes to adventure, this hill station offers trekking, boating, riding and fishing. It is also the place where Anamudi, the largest peak of South India is located. 


Main Attractions of Munnar

Eravikulam National Park
The establishment of this Park is a successful endeavor to save the endangered Nilgiri Tahr( a species of goat). Its scenic beauty and a rich variety of wildlife make it one of the best wildlife destinations of South India. Ruddy mongoose, nilgiri marten, dusky striped squirrel, nilgiri langur, sambhar, Golden jackel, jungle cat, tiger, leopard, elephant and Indian porcupine are a few wildlife species to mention. The perfect time to visit the Park is from November to March.


Tea and Coffee Gardens
Munnar is well known for its aromatic and refreshing tea and coffee gardens. Spread over acres of land, these gardens offer picturesque views and a wonderful experience.


Devikulam
A 7 km drive from Munnar brings you face to face with an arresting hill station called Devikulam. Its natural beauty will surely sweep you off your feet.


How To Reach

By Air: The nearest airport is located at Cochin.

By Rail: Cochin and Kottayam are the two nearest railway stations, which connect Munnar with the various cities of Kerala.

By Road: Munnar is easily accessible from the main cities of South India by road.
