The heavenly location of Kanyakumari is itself a great attraction. It lies at the confluence of the enchanting Arabian Sea, the Indian Ocean and the Bay of Bengal. This beautiful South Indian city is dominated by the mesmerizing beach, beautiful temples, monuments, paddy fields, dense forests, coconut grooves and a pleasant ambiance. Another thing which you must not miss in this city is the sunset and sunrise views, which are simply out-of-this-world. And if you are there during the full moon day, then there is nothing like it as the views are spectacular. This city is also a famous pilgrimage of the Hindus.

It is a land where the historical structures have been built in different styles of architecture, each having its own beauty. Several rulers such as the Cholas, the Cheras, the Pandyas and the Nayaks established their empires at Kanyakumari in the past. This city was named after an incarnation of the goddess Parvati.

Main Attractions

Kanyakumari Amman Temple
Built in honor of goddess Parvati, this temple boasts of magnificent mandaps, pillars and an arresting vimanam. Several festivals are celebrated here with great enthusiasm. It is believed that it is the sacred land where goddess Kanyakumari did penance to become the consort of lord Shiva.

Kanyakumari Beach
One of the most picturesque beaches of South India, Kanyakumari Beach  is very popular with tourists.

Vivekananda Rock Memorial
This is the sacred place where the revered social reformer Vivekanand meditated and found the truth. The monument built here in his memory offers breathtaking views of the beach.

Gandhi Memorial
Devoted to Mahatama Gandhi, this memorial was built at the site where the urn carrying his ashes was kept.

A variety of wooden objects, articles designed from sea shells and palm leaves are the famous handicrafts of Kanyakumari. Typical South Indian textiles are also available here.
